About: The grapes come from their very own “Lopata” and “Stavný Háj” vineyards in their town of Zemianske Sady. The Hlohovec wine region’s history dates back to the 14th century when planting rights were first granted. The vineyards have a South and Southwest exposition and have vines ranging from 10 to 35 years years old. They practice beekeeping in the parcels and encourage a wide amount of biodiversity. Their 17 hectares of vines form a small part of their 350ha farm, where they tend to livestock and also grow poppies, barley, wheat, rapeseed, and more.
The concept of ‘Majer white’ is a multi-vintage blend of many white varieties that they farm. This will vary from batch from batch, the percentages of each variety are not set, and hence the vinifications will vary. Various levels of skin contact or none, and wines aged in barrels, in steel tanks, in ovoid eggs, and more. Some is from the latest vintage whilst some might be taken from a batch that has spent three or more years aging in its respective vessel. Ultimately the key word is balance, and a full expression of ‘Majer’ or the Slobodne ‘manor’ or estate.
