About: Macvin du Jura is the signature vin de liquer of the Jura. A blend of unfermented grape juice which is then muted with marc from savagnin (the distilled lees and the French equivalent to grappa). This keeps the alcohol to a stable level and prevents further fementation of the sugars. An intense flavour explosion of dried apricot and nutty savouriness.
The Labet's come from a long line of Jura farmers, but it was Alain Labet who paved the way for this domaine (and modern wines from the Jura) with the introduction of ouille style wines, producing wines of elegance and precision.
The estate is based in Rotalier in the area south of Lons-le-Saunier, known as the Sud Revermont. In 1997, Alain's eldest son Julien returned to the domaine after time spent studying at Domaine Ramonet in Burgundy and Hamilton-Russell in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, South Africa. Inspired to create wine that was made using minimal intervention, expressive of the terroir and farmed biodynamically, he was handed the reigns to take over as head winemaker in 2012.
Now, with the help of his sibling's Romain and Charline, both also trained oenologist's, the domaine has become a guiding light for other estates in the region. Many fledgling (and experienced) winemakers pass through in order to hone their craft from this historic and incredibly knowledgable family.
An energetic and enigmatic family, they produce wonderful expressions of terroir and place with expert skill.
