Grapes, Pinot Noir
Serving: chilled (12–14°C)
A structured and intriguing wine from a famed single site vineyard in northeast Arbois. Dark forest fruits and spice, with some savoury flavours, very delicious. Destemmed and aged for one year in stainless steel. This wine will age well if you can wait.
Raphael Monnier and his wife Estelle started Domaine Ratapoil in 2009, at which time Raphael was still a full-time history teacher. His interest for winemaking began 20 years ago and in that time he helped on some small negociant projects with a friend, Jean Baptiste Menigoz of Domaine Bottes Rouges.
Ratapoil is the term given to an amateaur vigneron in the Arbois, which seems ironic given how sought after the wines of this domaine have become. From a tiny cellar in the picturesque north of Arbois, the family farm all their vines organically and vinify in the most natural way possible. Raphael is said to be a perfectionist, making clean and refined wines with complex structure.
With comparisons already, to the great Pierre Overnoy (one of his inspirations), this domaine will continue to gain popularity and rightly so, this is a winemaker heading for the top tier.
