About: Sourced from the white limestone soils of our Biodynamic estate vineyard, Hapa. This artisanal wine is hand harvested in 10 kilo cases following a rigorous selection in the vineyard. Once in the winery, the grapes are crushed, placed in a concrete tank and undergo spontaneous fermentation with the skins for 2 months. The wine is then pressed and placed in 600L French foudres for 1 year.
There are few better winemaker stories than that of Phinca Hapa's Melanie Hickman and her American bulldog Hapa. Originally from Hawaii, Melanie fell in love with a Riojan winemaker David Sampedro of Phinca Bhilar and move to start a life in Spain. Her passion for wine has lead her to purchase her own vineyard plots and start her Struggling Vines natural winemaking project.
